Sri Lanka Health And Ageing 1st Conference

The Institute for Health Policy will be holding a full-day conference at the Galle Face Hotel to share findings from the Sri Lanka Health and Ageing Study (SLHAS), explain research opportunities, and discuss future plans.

Since the SLHAS was launched in 2018, we have completed two waves of data collection and started an extended second wave to track the impacts of the current crisis, completing over 18,000 interviews with almost 9,000 respondents, and biobanking almost 50,000 samples. The conference will feature presentations by SLHAS investigators and collaborators on study design and methods, share findings on a range of topics highlighting the diversity of data collected, identify opportunities for research and data analysis, and discuss plans for data sharing, and future data collection and research.

Topics we expect to cover national estimates of salt intake; the prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, and ischaemic heart disease; mental health and the impact of COVID-19, care cascades for NCDs; inequalities in COVID-19 vaccination and testing; healthcare use and access; food insecurity; public policy preferences and opinion polling;  and plans for AI-assisted retinal screening and food insecurity tracking.
